Despite having a pre-Hispanic past deeply rooted in the Quimbaya culture, the goldsmithing tradition of Quimbaya was born as a result of the 1999 earthquake. This Association was established as a way for 18 women who saw jewelry as a path they could follow to earn their livelihoods. They were inspired by the indigenous symbology that represents their region’s cultural identity. Thus, they began making poporos, frogs, butterflies, fish, and stamps, gradually shifting toward more modern designs.
